Can You Open a CIBC Account Before Arriving in Canada?

Short answer: Yes, through the bank’s published pre-arrival pathway if you meet its conditions.

Current pre-arrival rule

CIBC Smart Arrival lets eligible permanent residents, foreign workers and international students apply before arrival. CIBC currently requires arrival within the next 12 months, a valid passport, UCI and applicable Canadian immigration documents.

Age requirement

Age of majority in the province or territory of arrival.

Country or immigration-status restriction

Applicant must be living in an eligible country and meet CIBC Smart Arrival document requirements.

Expect an in-Canada activation step
