Editorial policy
CanadaStarter is designed to help readers compare consequential purchase and setup decisions in Canada. Our standard is usefulness over volume: a page should help a reader understand the tradeoffs, identify the variables that actually change the outcome and verify important facts before acting.
Primary sources first
For product fees, eligibility, insurance coverage, mobile-plan features, tax rules, government requirements and promotions, we prefer official provider disclosures, regulators and government sources. Third-party articles can provide context, but they should not override a current primary source when the two conflict.
Current terms, not stale marketing
High-intent comparison pages are researched against current product pages and show a research date where practical. We separate temporary promotions from ongoing pricing and avoid turning a one-time welcome offer into a permanent product claim. Exchange rates, transfer fees, mobile plans and travel pricing can move quickly, so some pages intentionally tell readers to run a live quote rather than publishing a false permanent winner.
How comparisons are structured
Comparison criteria depend on the category. Banking pages may emphasize recurring fees, ATM access and eligibility. Money-transfer pages focus on recipient amount, FX spread, funding method and payout options. Insurance pages compare coverage, deductibles and exclusions. Telecom pages look at monthly cost, data, activation and network fit. The objective is to compare the decision, not simply list brands.
Commercial independence
Affiliate compensation can affect which providers CanadaStarter is able to monetize, but it must not determine comparison criteria, justify a factual claim or guarantee favourable placement. A non-partner can be included when it is relevant, and an affiliate partner can be criticized when its fees, eligibility or limitations make it a weaker fit. See our affiliate disclosure for more detail.
Corrections
Products and rules change. Material factual errors should be corrected when discovered. When reporting a correction, include the page URL, the statement at issue and a current primary source if possible. We prioritize corrections that could change a reader’s financial, legal, insurance, tax or purchasing decision.
What CanadaStarter does not provide
Our content is general informational research and is not individualized financial, tax, legal, immigration, investment, employment or insurance advice. Readers should use the linked primary sources and, where the consequences are material or facts are complex, obtain qualified professional advice.
Updates
Commercial and fast-changing pages receive more frequent review than evergreen educational pages. A page can still become outdated between reviews, so the final provider contract, government rule or regulator publication controls when it differs from our summary.
