A non-reciprocal licence does not mean your prior experience is worthless. It means the province does not offer a simple test-free exchange for that jurisdiction. The exact sequence can still change depending on the licence class, expiry date and how many years of driving you can prove.

Proof of at least two years of non-learner driving experience is needed to avoid B.C.’s Graduated Licensing Program. ICBC can credit up to 15 years of driving experience from an acceptable driving record, and that record can also affect insurance pricing.

ICBC maintains a licence-exchange program for specified jurisdictions. If your licence is on the current exchange list, the exchange can be completed without the full testing path, subject to identity, licence class and experience requirements.
