This tool does not decide whether your exact country is reciprocal. First classify your current licence using the licensing authority’s current exchange list. “Canada or United States” is separated because many provinces treat those licences more simply. “Reciprocal foreign” means your specific jurisdiction appears on the current no-test or simplified exchange list. “Non-reciprocal foreign” means it does not.
Always collect your driver abstract or official licence history before surrendering the original licence. The document can affect graduated-licensing placement and, in some provinces, insurance pricing.
Before you exchange your licence
Order the documents that may be difficult to replace after leaving your home jurisdiction: an official driver abstract, the original date you were first licensed, and a claims-history letter when your insurer can provide one. If the documents are not in English or French, check the destination province’s translation rules before paying for a translation. Also verify whether your old licence will be surrendered during the exchange. Starting this work early gives you time to correct a missing date or authentication problem before the legal foreign-licence deadline arrives.
The result is a planning screen, not an approval. The licensing office decides reciprocity, licence class, test requirements and how much prior experience it will recognize.
