Bottom line: These are both remittance-first services, so the winner is especially corridor-dependent. Compare the recipient amount and payout convenience for the exact country you send to most often.
Current comparison snapshot
| Provider / option | Best for | Current facts | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Remitly | Broad country coverage and Canadian Interac funding | Remitly says its Canadian service reaches 175+ countries. Canadian users can fund eligible transfers with Interac e-Transfer, bank account, Visa/Mastercard debit or credit cards, with exact choices varying by route. | New-customer promotional exchange rates and fee waivers can make the first transfer look unusually attractive. Compare the non-promotional repeat-transfer quote as well. |
| WorldRemit | Established remittance payout network | WorldRemit says Canadian senders can reach 130+ destinations. Its Canada FAQ currently supports Visa/Mastercard cards and Apple Pay, and says Interac is no longer supported. | Canada-specific funding limits include CAD 4,000 per card or Apple Pay transaction and CAD 40,000 per 24 hours. Destination-specific limits may be lower. |
| Recipient methods | Choosing by the recipient’s needs | Both providers support multiple receive methods on selected corridors. Remitly currently shows bank deposit, cash pickup and mobile wallet in Nigeria and Colombia, while WorldRemit also advertises bank transfer, cash pickup and mobile money on those routes. | A receive method shown in one country does not imply availability in another. Pick the payout method first, then compare price. |
The most important Canadian difference is funding
Remitly currently accepts Interac e-Transfer on Canadian transfers where offered, while WorldRemit says Interac is no longer supported in Canada. That can change the total cost and convenience before exchange rates are even compared.
Do not let the first-transfer promotion decide the winner
Remitly frequently publishes new-customer exchange-rate promotions and fee waivers by corridor. Those can be valuable, but a recurring sender should also price a normal repeat transfer. A provider that wins transfer number one may not win transfer number ten.
Choose by corridor, not by brand loyalty
For each destination, enter the same CAD amount, choose the same receive method and compare the exact recipient amount and arrival estimate. Save the result for that corridor, but recheck when the transfer size changes materially or a promotion expires.
Provider pages checked for this comparison
These links go to the providers’ own current product or route pages. Re-check them before applying or purchasing because pricing and promotions can change.
What to compare
Do not compare brands on one promotional number. Put the products side by side using the same assumptions and the factors that affect your recurring cost and ability to use the product.
How to make the decision
- Select the same destination and recipient method.
- Enter the same CAD send amount.
- Compare the final recipient amount.
- Compare delivery speed at that price.
- Check repeat-transfer pricing after any introductory offer.
CanadaStarter methodology
We prioritize total cost, eligibility, practical usability and downside risk. We separate temporary promotions from ongoing terms and prefer primary provider disclosures for fees and eligibility. We do not treat a higher affiliate payout as evidence that a product is better.
Because financial products, insurance policies, telecom plans and promotions change frequently, use this guide to narrow the field and then confirm the final terms on the provider’s official website before applying or purchasing.

Financial Consumer Agency of Canada →Frequently asked questions
Which service is cheaper?
It depends on the corridor and transfer details. Compare live quotes rather than relying on a global ranking.
Do introductory offers matter?
They can improve a first transfer, but repeat users should also compare normal ongoing pricing.
