Newcomer Checklist Generator

Create a practical first-90-days setup checklist based on your status, province and whether you are arriving alone or with family.

Tell us about your arrival

This is a planning tool, not immigration or legal advice. Eligibility for government services depends on your documents and province.

Why the checklist changes by status and province

A permanent resident, temporary worker, international student and visitor do not have identical setup requirements. A Social Insurance Number may be immediately relevant to someone authorized to work, while a visitor may need to focus more heavily on private medical coverage and status-expiry dates. Provincial rules also change health-coverage enrolment and rental-deposit requirements.

The generator keeps the universal tasks—identity documents, phone service, banking, housing, budgeting and tax recordkeeping—then adds status-specific and province-specific steps. That makes it more useful than a single generic arrival list while still avoiding personalized legal conclusions.

Use the checklist as an order of operations

Some tasks unlock others. A reliable phone number and bank account make employment, rental applications and bill payments easier. Stable housing makes insurance and utility setup possible. Once those basics are working, it is easier to optimize recurring costs, establish credit carefully and prepare for taxes or benefits.

What to verify separately

Immigration conditions, work authorization, provincial health eligibility, school requirements and benefit eligibility can depend on details the generator does not know. Use the checklist to organize the work, then confirm each government rule with the responsible federal or provincial authority.
