Money Transfer FX Cost Calculator
Turn a provider’s fee and exchange-rate spread into one comparable cost.
Enter the transfer details
Use rates quoted at roughly the same time. This calculator assumes the provider converts the entered CAD amount at the provider rate and separately charges the visible fee.
Why the exchange-rate markup matters
A provider can advertise a low or zero transfer fee and still be expensive if its exchange rate is weaker than the mid-market rate. The easiest fair comparison is to combine both costs.
The calculator estimates what the recipient would receive at the mid-market rate, compares that with the provider’s quoted rate, converts the difference back into CAD, then adds the visible transfer fee.
Example
If the mid-market rate is 1.00 and the provider rate is 0.98, the provider is effectively giving 2% less foreign currency. On a $1,000 transfer, that difference is worth about $20 before any visible fee.
How to compare providers
Open two or three providers within a few minutes of each other. Enter the same send amount, record each provider’s fee and quoted exchange rate, then compare total estimated cost. For the cleanest real-world check, also compare the final amount the recipient is shown to receive.
Promotional rates, funding-method fees, credit-card cash-advance charges and recipient-side fees can change the true result. Use this calculator as a comparison aid rather than a substitute for the final checkout quote.
