$2 million Tenant Insurance Liability Coverage
Personal liability coverage is designed for covered claims alleging that you caused bodily injury or property damage to someone else, subject to the policy wording.
Start with the lease requirement
If your landlord requires liability insurance, the lease may specify a minimum limit. Buying a lower limit can leave you out of compliance even if the policy otherwise looks inexpensive.
What the limit is not
The liability limit is not the same as your contents limit. A policy can have $$2 million of liability coverage while separately limiting how much it pays for your own belongings, additional living expenses and specialty property.
Why renters compare $1M and $2M
These are common quote settings in the Canadian market, but the right choice is contract- and risk-specific. Compare the premium difference using the same contents amount, deductible and optional coverages rather than assuming the higher or lower limit is automatically better.
